We are a largely Christian nation, the Holidays have a whole cultural tradition here. In the Cusco region, people get ready mainly on the 24th of December: they go shopping for presents, tipping gets more common (also find out about tipping uses in Peru), and there are many social gatherings for lunch. At night, families get together and exchange gifts, and at 12:00 everybody wishes Merry Christmas, in remembrance of Jesus’ Nativity, and then a special dinner is served.
We are a country of rich gastronomy, now becoming well-known worldwide. In most cases, the typical dinner is turkey meat with salad (a minority of families will choose pork instead) and champagne for drinking. Also, hot chocolate is served everywhere. Typical Peruvian fruits are included many times.
