Airports in Peru – Lima and Cusco
If you’re coming from the Northern Hemisphere, you’ll most likely first arrive at Lima’s Jorge Chavez International airport, because there are quite a few direct flights to Cusco from abroad. This is a great way to start a vacation in Peru: Lima is a coastal city, and the plane will fly over the vast, beautiful Pacific Ocean before landing. Jorge Chavez is a top airport, we’ll tell you more in a while. From there, we have some 40 daily flights to our town, Cusco, timing 1 hour and 20 minutes. Cusco City’s airport (Velasco Astete) is smaller, simpler, but we’ll also give you the best tips for enjoying it without problems.
Best Tips for Airports in Peru
- Domestic flights within our country won’t time more than 1 hour and half
- Lima is the hub for all flying activities
- Cusco City has only a few international flights, you should ask us while doing the reservation
- Both airports offer tourism information in English, food areas, bookstores, souvenir shops and more
- When in Cusco’s airport, stay alert because there is no loudspeaker for announcing boarding times
- Always have your documents within easy reach
- If you’re going to the Peruvian jungle, you’ll be asked the yellow fever certificate of vaccination
- Wifi is not really good in both airports, if you have some important thing to do online, it would better be from the hotel
- Exchange rates there are not the best, it is much better to use a money shop in the city
- Restaurant prices are far more expensive in airports
- There are very interesting duty free shops both in Lima and Cusco
- Be prepared because weather in Lima is always warmer than in Cusco. Always have a jacket at hand (and lighter clothes underneath if you’re going the other way)
- International flights usually arrive in Lima in the small hours
- Keep in mind the list of items not allowed for airplane traveling (you can ask our travel advisors)
- Also, have all metal objects ready for being put on the tray, for the security check
- Since wifi is not good, we suggest you bring a book, newspaper, etc for the lounge, if needed
- All transfers to your hotel are included in our packages
- Be there early for the check-in, usually 1 hour before departure
We hope these tips for using airports in Peru are helpful enough. Wishing you a really perfect time in our enchanting country!
